Performance Evaluation of Different Raspberry Pi Models for a Broad Spectrum of Interests

Now-a-days, Single Board Computers (SBCs), especially Raspberry Pi (RPi) devices, are extensively used due to their low cost, efficient use of energy, and successful implementation in a wide range applications; therefore, evaluating performance is critical better understand the applicability RPis solve problems different areas knowledge. This paper describes comparative experimental study regarding five models RPi family (RPi Zero W, 2 3B, 3B+, 4B) several scenarios with configurations. To conduct our multiple experiments on RPis, we self-developed other existing open-source benchmarking tools allowing us perform tests that mimic real-world needs, assessing important factors including CPU frequency temperature during stressful activities, processor when executing CPU-intensive processes such as audio file compressions well cryptographic operations, memory microSD storage read write TCP throughput WiFi bands, latency send specific payload from source destination. Our results showed 4B significantly outperformed SBCs tested. In addition, research indicated W overclocked, 3B+ had similar performance. Finally, much higher capacity than its predecessor, seems be perfect replacement upgrading, since they have same form factor physically interchangeable. With this study, aim guide researchers hobbyists selecting adequate for projects.
